Trixie Grewell
Hi my name is Trixie, Im a manager and barista at Caribou Coffee and this year is the first time Im going to do the Polar Plunge. There are two main reasons Ive decided to be brave and face the freeze this year. I value the mission of the Special Olympics. I myself am neurodivergent, and I have many close family members and friends who live with intellectual disabilities. I understand to a certain level what it feels like to be excluded from sports and activities because of the way people judge you for the conditions you live with in your mind. Its not your fault and it shouldnt affect the way people are allowed to compete in games and sports. The second reason Im participating is for myself. I want to do things that get me out of my comfort zone, something I wouldnt normally do, something that scares me. I have this mindset where if I do things that scare me, it will help me be a happier person and gain perspective on life and remembering to be grateful. Thats why Im supporting Special Olympics and participating in the Polar Plunge.
