Hi and welcome to my polar plunge fundraising page The Polar Plunge is basically the craziest way to start the year or raise money for charity. It’s when a bunch of people—sometimes in hilarious costumes like penguins or superheroes—run straight into a freezing cold ocean or lake in the middle of winter. Most people do it for the Special Olympics, which is a really cool cause, or just to prove they can handle the "arctic" water.
When you first hit the water, it feels like a million tiny needles hitting your skin. Your brain kind of glitches and you forget how to breathe for a second because of the "cold shock." You aren't supposed to stay in for more than a minute or two because you don’t want to get hypothermia. Even though it’s freezing, everyone is usually screaming and laughing, which makes it feel like a giant party.
After you scramble out, you have to dry off super fast and put on warm sweatpants. The best part is the "afterburn" feeling where your skin glows and you feel totally awake and proud of yourself. It’s definitely a "one-two-three-GO" kind of thing—if you think about it too long, you’ll never jump in!
Do you want to know what gear you should bring so you don't freeze afterward, or should I find a plunge event near you?
